Two Georgia men were sentenced to federal prison in separate child pornography cases this week, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced Wednesday.

Joseph Butler, 66, of Clarkston, a longtime U.S. Department of Education employee, was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years followed by five years of supervised release for collecting child pornography using his government computer, authorities said.

Butler used his computer to download images onto CD-ROMs, which federal agents found during a search of his home in July 2011. Agents also found graphic stories Butler had written about children, according to information presented in court.

Former Navy Seaman Spencer Duncan, 23, of Lawrenceville was sentenced Tuesday to 6 years, 6 months in prison and 10 years of supervised release for distributing child pornography to an undercover FBI agent, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

Using a peer-to-peer file-sharing network, Duncan allowed others to access his collection of child pornography images and videos, which the FBI discovered on his computer while executing a search warrant.

Both men pleaded guilty in December 2011 and must register as sex offenders after their prison time, authorities said.

“These two cases illustrate the important point that consumers and purveyors of child pornography can be found everywhere," U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said in the news release. "Both defendants had worked in service to our country and yet were collecting or distributing photographs of children being sexually abused."
