Henry County commissioners objected to the city of Lovejoy’s request to annex nine parcels near Hampton.
The city had previously requested the parcels along Ga. Highway 81 and Tara Boulevard, most of which is undeveloped and zoned for residential use and light-manufacturing. The property owners had approached the city asking for an annexation.
After meeting with city officials earlier this month, the commission decided unanimously on Thursday to object to the proposal, insisting the annexation would be “detrimental to the county and to the health, safety and welfare of the county and its citizens.”
According to the county resolution, commissioners cited multiple reasons for denying the proposal, including confusion with zoning and emergency services, inconsistencies in development regulations and standards and lost tax revenue that could affect the county’s budget.
