The DeKalb County Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will hold a series of public meetings to review the draft plans for Avondale Dunaire Park and the George Luther Drive property. The area is on the banks of Indian Creek just outside of the Interstate 285 perimeter.

Earlier this year, one of the largest illegal tire dumps in metro Atlanta was discovered at near the George Luther Drive property. The gates to the property had been knocked down, giving people access to dump countless tires on the land, and no one noticed it for years.

DeKalb County acquired the land from the Georgia Department of Transportation to expand Dunaire Park’s 16 acres. The county became responsible for its clean-up and remediation.

The first meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 17, at 6:30 p.m., at DeKalb Watershed Management Building located at 4572 Memorial Drive, Decatur, GA 30032.. The meeting will take place in training room A.

Information will be provided on current park improvements and recreation projects.
