A spring cleaning across DeKalb County will sweep up litter, part of a renewed emphasis on good-looking neighborhoods and better government service.

Interim DeKalb CEO Lee May said more resources are being dedicated for mowing, code enforcement and litter abatement, and beautification services are being consolidated into a single county business unit.

“It’s a new way of doing business in terms of keeping our county a beautiful place,” May said. “There are pockets of areas that are unsightly, ridden with litter and debris, and we’re bringing a renewed focus to that.”

The countywide clean-up will be held May 12. The county government is distributing cleaning supplies and encouraging neighborhoods to participate.

May said the beautification unit will be located on Candler Road south of Decatur, where residents can find out about zoning, property maintenance enforcement, litter, mowing, roadway adoption community clean-ups and community outreach.

He said improving the appearance of communities will raise quality of life and promote economic development.
