The 10 candidates seeking a seat on the DeKalb County Commission are getting the word out about what they stand for during seven candidate forums.

Two of the debates have already taken place, five more are scheduled before the June 16 special election to represent more than 140,000 residents in southeast DeKalb.

The district has lacked a representative for almost two years since its former commissioner, Lee May, was appointed by Gov. Nathan Deal in July 2013 to serve as the county's interim CEO. May recently resigned his commission seat, clearing the way for the election.

A runoff would be held July 14 if none of the candidates wins a majority of the votes.

The forums will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Stonecrest Library, June 8 at 7 p.m. at the Community Achievement Center in Decatur, June 9 at 7 p.m. at the Stonecrest Library, June 10 at 8:30 a.m. at the Fairfield Inn and Suites Hotel-Stonecrest, and June 11 at the DeKalb Medical Center at Hillandale Theatre.
