In its most recent annual financial report, Chipotle Mexican Grill reports climate change may one day lead to the end of guac sales at their restaurants.
In its report, store representatives report, "any changes associated with global climate change, could have a significant impact on the price or availability of some of our ingredients….we may choose to temporarily suspend serving menu items, such as guacamole or one or more of our salsas, rather than paying the increased cost for the ingredients.
According to HuffingtonPost.com, a Chipotle spokesman says any such shortage is just theoretical and the company is just being extremely cautious in its risk reporting.
Temperature shifts, including heat waves and drought, can lead to dramatic drops in long term crop production.
