A local high school football player was among four teenagers arrested earlier this month due to their alleged involvement in a gang.
Channel 2 Action News reported that 17-year-old Keymarea Hamilton, who played for Booker T. Washington High, is being charged as an adult on gang, theft and traffic charges.
Atlanta police said Hamilton and three others, who were not identified because they are minors, were arrested Dec. 20 after a traffic stop in northwest Atlanta.
“We had undercover officers in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard conducting surveillance. They observed an SUV, and they recognized the driver as someone they had dealt with before, and they knew he was not licensed,” Atlanta police spokesman Sgt. John Chafee told the news station.
Investigators said they found three stolen guns in the car, as well as an ID and bank cards belonging to LaDawn Jones, the solicitor for the city of South Fulton.
Channel 2 reported that the four teens are believed to be connected to the recent robbery of Jones at a South Fulton gas station. Jones was filling up her car on Fulton Industrial Boulevard when someone got out of a Dodge Charger, slid into her car and grabbed her purse, iPhone and cash.
Atlanta police could not comment on the South Fulton case since it is out of their jurisdiction.
