Firefighters closed a block of Peachtree Street in Midtown for more than two hours Thursday night after a man stopped his vehicle, which was full of chemicals, and complained of trouble breathing.

The block between 14th and 15th streets by Colony Square was closed as firefighters waited on a hazardous-materials unit to arrive to decontaminate the man’s Chevrolet Avalanche.

Spokeswoman Janet Ward aid the man wa also decontaminated and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital to be examined, but he was breathing on his own.

The man, whose identity was not released, works for an industrial-pipe cleaning company. The vehicle was full of various cleaning chemicals such as bleach and iron phosphate, Ward said.
