A former employee at the corporate office of HoneyBaked Ham in Alpharetta is accused of embezzling almost $20,000 from the company.

But Jennifer Savino’s responses to the charges vary, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The corporate office and their internal fraud team became suspicious after multiple invoices for equipment cleaning at one of the stores was received and payments approved, according to the news station.

“Typically the item that required the cleaning had to be cleaned once a year, so there had been numerous invoices and payments sent out related to this case,” Alpharetta police spokesman Howard Miller said.

After corporate security seized Savino’s computer, they said she had falsified paperwork and taken the money, Channel 2 reported.

"Initially she told internal HoneyBaked Ham investigators she was doing this because she was addicted to pain pills,” Miller said, “but later recanted her confession and said she wasn't involved."

She since has been indicted on charges of theft, computer theft and forgery.

The company did not respond to Channel 2’s requests for comment.
