A Florida man was sentenced to seven years in federal prison on Tuesday after he mailed a letter threatening to kill President Obama in September 2014.
Jeremy L. Addison, 24, was awaiting trial in 2014 on an unrelated charge when he wrote a letter to the president stating, "You're a dead man … boy I hate swine. I'm the general me … and anthrax, so yes I intend to kill you," the U.S. Department of Justice reported.
The Department of Justice said an agent interviewed Addison about the letter and the DeLand-area man spit in the agent’s face and said, “I’m going to kill you, too.”
The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports Addison pleaded guilty on Oct. 13. He then sent another death threat letter to the assistant U.S. attorney handling his case, but sent an apology a few days later.
U.S. Attorney spokesman William Daniels said the court "enhanced Addison's sentence by finding that he had not accepted responsibility for his criminal behavior and that he had obstructed justice by writing a letter threatening to kill the assigned Assistant U.S. Attorney.”
