A Coweta County deputy sheriff has been fired after a physical confrontation with his ex-wife, who is also a deputy, outside the sheriff’s office resulted in his arrest, an official said.

Brandon Lamar Harris was charged with family violence battery after pushing Shannon Harris to the ground Wednesday, sheriff’s Col. Jimmy Yarbrough confirmed.

The department ordered an internal investigation and reviewed surveillance video of the incident. Officials determined that Brandon Harris was at fault.

The confrontation stemmed from an incident in which the Harris’ son, who lives with his mother, was taken to a hospital after he fell and hit his head on his bed, deputies said.

Shannon Harris tried to contact Brandon Harris but he did not answer, according to the report. He tried to call her but she did not answer because she was working.

When she got off work, she walked to the employee parking lot and Brandon Harris confronted her, according to the report. They exchanged words, he pushed her and she pushed him back.

“After she pushed him back,” according to the report, “she said that Brandon then grabbed her hair and forced her down towards the ground.”

Brandon Harris was released from the Coweta County jail on $2,250 bond Friday after his arrest.
