Investigators hope an autopsy will yield clues to the death of a person found in an apartment complex swimming pool, Brookhaven police said Friday afternoon.

The body was discovered Friday morning in a pool at the Marquis Villas Apartment Homes in the 3400 block of Buford Highway, Major Brandon Gurley said. Police declined to release many details, including confirming witness reports that the body had been tied to a chair.

“We are not confirming how the body was found,” Gurley said. “There are still unanswered questions.”

One resident of the complex, Pamela Hamell, told Channel 2 Action News she was shaken up by seeing the body in the pool.

“They duct-taped his feet and his arms and they had a plastic bag over his head,” Hamell said.

Another resident said it was a maintenance worker who found the body and called police shortly after 10 a.m.

The autopsy will be conducted by the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office, Gurley said.
