A Cobb County man accused of shooting several rounds into his neighbor’s home was arrested Tuesday evening following a police chase and standoff in Arkansas.

The search for Cody Demmitt began Saturday after he was denied entry to a house party and fired multiple gunshots, hitting one partygoer in the shoulder, according to Cobb police. It ended Tuesday after a brief standoff with law enforcement at a home near St. Francis, Arkansas, according to media reports.

In the hours before the standoff, Demmitt was accused of shooting and injuring a police officer near Memphis, Tennessee, where his girlfriend lives with the couple’s young child, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Hurst was working as part of an FBI Safe Streets task force. It’s not clear what led to the shooting, but Hurst was treated for his injury at a hospital and released the same day.

Demmitt was then accused of stealing the officer’s unmarked patrol car, according to local media reports. He allegedly turned on the squad car’s blue flashing lights while driving out of Memphis and into Arkansas, the Commercial Appeal reported.

Authorities said Demmitt abandoned the car near St. Francis and continued into the woods on foot. He barricaded himself inside a home there before ultimately surrendering, Channel 2 reported.

The FBI is now involved in the investigation.

Demmitt’s girlfriend and child are safe and remain in the Memphis area, according to Channel 2. Demmitt was originally charged with aggravated assault in the Cobb shooting. It was unclear what other charges he will face following the incidents in Tennessee and Arkansas.
