Winder police say thieves made off with guns worth $16,000 in a dramatic heist from a local pawn shop Sunday morning.
According to a news release, police are searching for at least four people video surveillance shows using a stolen white Dodge Ram to ram the front window of Southeast Pawn in a strip mall near the center of town around 3:15 a.m. Sunday. The four suspects rushed into the breach and made off with more than 20 guns, abandoning the truck.
“According to the video, they were in and out of the store in approximately three minutes,” said Winder police spokesman Officer Chris Cooper. “We believe they left the scene in a secondary vehicle since the vehicle used to enter the store was left behind and no one was located in the area as our officers arrived on scene within just a few minutes of them leaving.”
Most of the stolen guns were handguns, but the take included four long guns, including a Bushmaster semi-automatic rifle, according to the shop owners. Police believe the suspects may also have taken some ammunition.
Cooper said detectives have leads on the case, but they do not have a description of the suspects because all of them were wearing head coverings.
“We are still reviewing video to get a better description,” he said.
