A Coweta County man has been arrested on a charge of felony murder after a bullet entered a car in Statesboro on Sunday, killing one of the teenage occupants.

William Marcus Wilson, 21, of Sharpsburg, is also charged with aggravated assault in the death of Haley Hutcheson, Statesboro police said Wednesday in a statement.

Hutcheson, 17, of Reidsville, was shot just before 1 a.m. while she was in a car that was traveling south of the Brannen Street intersection on Veterans Memorial Parkway, according to authorities.

The other people in the vehicle took her to East Georgia Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, police said. Hutcheson was a student at Claxton High School, according to the Statesboro Herald.

Investigators said evidence indicated that the shot that killed the teen came from another car in the area.

Police on Tuesday obtained a warrant accusing Wilson in the death after “forensic findings and tips from civilians,” the department said. He turned himself in the next day.

Wilson was taken to the Bulloch County Jail, where he remains.
