A new baby has arrived at Zoo Atlanta, a rare eastern bongo born Saturday to mother Matilda and father Tambo.

It is the third offspring from the couple.

Bongos are a species of antelope and one of the rarest of the animals at Zoo Atlanta. Matilda’s and Tambo’s first two calves — Beauregard and Betty Jean, were born in 2011 and 2012, respectively, and now reside at other zoos.

Beauregard was the first bongo born at Zoo Atlanta. The habitat for these animals, in Kenya, is rapidly disappearing, and fewer than 500 are said to be living in the wild.

Matilda will, following her instincts, keep the newest bongo hidden for a period of time, before it goes on exhibit.
