Atlanta doctor Michael Randell has not been able to perform surgery or see patients since Monday.

Randell, a gynecologist, is concerned about his patients who have not able to undergo surgery. Emory St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he works, postponed all elective surgeries.

“My patients don’t die of what they have. But its certainly a lifestyle issue,” he said. Randell has given his patients instructions on  how to message him so that he can advise them in case of crisis.

“Technology has really made it possible to withstand this,” he said.

Randell is not trained to treat coronavirus patients, but says he wish he could help the hospital out.

“We almost feel guilty being in the hospital when we can’t help,” he said.

Randell’s fiancee, Amy Ackerman, is an event planner who has seen her career greatly impacted as well.

“Parties, events, everything is being cancelled. Employees are being laid off,” Randell said.

The couple is planning on getting married in August, but is reconsidering their plans. They are concerned about guests traveling even months from now.

“I think this could be a longterm thing,” Randell said. “The question really becomes, how long will this last and will we be able to catch up?”
