Soft skills can make all the difference in landing a job or being considered for a promotion.

A 2017 study even found that employees with well-honed soft skills like communication, teamwork and problem-solving tend to be more productive and earn higher wages.

If you want to use your time at home to add some new skills to your tool belt, you can now do so for free online.

Columbus Technical College is offering free online professional development classes including business etiquette and time management.

"Whether you're looking for a job or simply want to improve your skills for your current career, there is a wide variety of robust and valuable professional development and training options available," according to a post on the college's website.

The school said its their way of supporting communities “in this time of need.”

The courses are self-paced and cover a variety of topics that are applicable to the workplace. Once someone completes a course, the college will send a confirmation to share with an employer or add to a resume.

The available courses include:

  • 10 soft skills you need (2.5 hours)
  • Business etiquette (2.5 hours)
  • Customer service training (2.5 hours)
  • Attention management (2 hours)
  • Business writing - basic and advanced (up to 3 hours)
  • Goal setting and getting things done (2 hours)
  • Emotional intelligence (2 hours)
  • Time management (2 hours)
