Adding a gym membership to the list of other monthly expenses like bills and rent can get pricey quickly. But for some metro Atlanta renters, the gym is already on-site.

In a new analysis from RentCafé — an apartment listing site — Alpharetta tops the list for Georgia cities with the highest share of apartments for rent with gyms.

In fact, 98% of apartment buildings in Alpharetta have gyms.

"Alpharettans will be happy to know that renting in a community with this amenity will not set them back more than $6 per month over the city average ($1,480)," according to the report. "This is because Alpharetta boasts many new, high-end buildings, which generally come with fitness amenities."

Other Georgia cities that are good for “active renters,” AKA people who like to workout where they live, include Kennesaw, Duluth, Stockbridge, Lawrenceville and Roswell, according to the list.

Within Atlanta proper, 69% of buildings have a gym, according to RentCafé.

“The rent difference between a property with a gym and the city average in Atlanta is a solid $103, which is to be expected in a large city with a more balanced mix of older and newer buildings,” RentCafé writes.

In 2010, 89% of new apartment buildings nationwide included a gym. That’s up from just 29% since the 1970s.

Workout facilities are among the most attractive amenities for renters, but it’s not a deal breaker in most cases. More than 70% of respondents to a RentCafé survey said they would still rent from a building without a gym and the majority of people aren’t willing to shell out additional cash in order to have an on-site gym.
