Served juicy, stacked and often layered with a variety of toppings — from bacon to avocado — Germany’s gift of the hamburger has kept on giving the last 250 years.

It’s only right that as summer cookout season commences the Best of Atlanta series pays homage to some of the city’s best.

The best thing about a burger is that there is no wrong way to eat it. In fact, some of the city's finest establishments have found particularly off-kilter ways to prepare them. For instance, Cypress Street Pint and Plate gives its customers a combination of sweet and savory with its burger stacked on two Sublime doughnuts.

Though there's no rules to eating it, some scientists did recently reveal you could go fatally awry in grilling your burger. Here's what to know about how to properly grill your burger.
