“Gone With the Wind” is gone in the wind – to the United Kingdom.

Frank Reiss, owner of A Cappella Books, said the signed, first-run, first edition book is on its way to a rare book dealer.

The unidentified book dealer made an “acceptable offer,” which Reiss declined to divulge.

Reiss said his former bookstore manager posted the article on Facebook and it was spotted by the dealer.

Reiss decided to sell the book after he was forced to cancel five events, including an appearance  by best-selling author Malcolm Gladwell ,  due to the recent winter storm.

He estimates he lost at least $20,000 in refunded ticket sales, canceled contracts and lost revenue from planned book sales at the events. Reiss wanted to recoup some of the lost revenue by selling Margaret Mitchell’s classic, which he bought last summer from the great-niece of Medora Field Perkerson, an author, journalist and one of the Mitchell’s close friends. He priced the value at $25,000.

The sale means things won’t be as  “tenuous for the next few weeks,” Reiss said. “ It will behind us that much quicker.”

Other than this temporary financial blip, the Atlanta  bookstore was doing rather well, Reiss said.
