Q: There is an exquisite Scottish whisky that only a few upscale restaurants carry. It’s Isle of Sky. Are you able to locate a package store that carries this brand? Thank you very much in advance. — Elard Scharffenberg, Marietta
A: Elard, you’ll find both the 12-year-old ($35.99, 750-ml bottle) and the 8-year-old ($27.99, 750-ml bottle) Isle of Sky scotch whisky at Tower Beer, Wine and Spirits, 2161 Piedmont Road, Atlanta, 404-881-0902.
Q: I had some wonderful date honey in Israel that I got at the gift shop at Masada. I have tried to find it around here, obviously to no avail. I also tried the Internet, where it was very expensive since it was being shipped from Israel. Do you have any idea where I could find it other than the two places I’ve named? It’s delicious on baked chicken, and you can also add some orange juice to it and bake the chicken in that. Thank you for your time. — Diane Baer, Atlanta
A: Not to be confused with bees’ honey, date honey, or silan as it’s also called, is an ancient Middle Eastern syrup that can be drizzled anywhere you might use traditional honey or syrup — from sweet to savory dishes. Silan resembles molasses and is made by boiling down dates and water until the mixture becomes thickened, then the strained liquid is boiled until it morphs into a dark, sticky condiment. You can find several types of silan — with or without added sugar — at the Spicy Peach, 2887 N. Druid Hills Road, Atlanta, 404-334-7200. A 22.9-ounce squeeze bottle costs $7.59 and a smaller 12-ounce bottle sells for $5.79.
Q: I have used Alexandra de Markoff daytime moisturizer for many years but, evidently, the company is no longer in business, and the moisturizer is no longer available. If you could find some for me, I would be very appreciative. — Catherine Wells, Sandy Springs
A: Catherine, you’re not alone, several readers have been asking about the status of Alexandra de Markoff daytime moisturizer. The good news is that the company isn’t out of business. The bad news is that the daytime moisturizer is out of stock, and has been for more than a year. It seems that there’s a missing component at the manufacturer’s level, and when that gets resolved, then your moisturizer will, once again, be available. It’s still listed on www.ademcosmetics.com. According to someone I spoke with at www.your-cosmetics.com, which shows the moisturizer as out of stock, but available at some point on its website, this isn’t unusual for Alexandra de Markoff. You can call customer service at 208-846-8419 to be notified when the daytime moisturizer becomes available.
Q: I have been searching everywhere for fruit slices. The half-moon shaped candy deliciously flavored and not too sweet that came in four or five flavors in one box. I can’t remember who made them. Cracker Barrel used to carry these delectable candies but I was told they aren’t being made anymore. I have tried some I found at other stores but they are all way too sugary. Is there any hope of me ever being able to enjoy this wonderful treat again? — Celeste Koshida, email
A: I suspect that the ones you’re thinking of are the Sunkist fruit slices, which are now made by Jelly Belly. You can find them in many flavors, including orange, watermelon, lemon, grape and peach at Green’s Fine Foods, 141 Trinity Place, Decatur, 404-378-2001. You can buy as few or as many as you like since they’re sold in bulk for $8 per pound.
