Q: Can you please tell me where I might find rendered chicken fat? A few years ago, when I lived outside of Georgia, I would use Empire brand, which I liked, but I can’t find it in any of the stores I shop. I would be happy with any brand you could find for me. Thank you for your effort in finding this. — Janine Culberson, email
A: Empire Kosher offers a variety of chicken products, including rendered chicken fat, which comes fully cooked. Empire Kosher chicken fat in 7-ounce tubs sells for $4.49 each at Publix, 2969 N. Druid Hills Road, Atlanta, 404-638-6022. You’ll find it at the back of the store in the freezer of the kosher section.
Q: Where can I find two fragrances from years back: Royal Secret and Galore. I think they were made or distributed by Scandia, but I haven’t been able to locate them in local department stores. Is there a website that will list old, discontinued fragrances? I’m not good with Internet searches, and so I have not had any luck with either searches. Thanks much! — Eloise Joyner, Atlanta
A: The original Royal Secret and Galore fragrances by Germain Monteil now are owned and produced by Five Star fragrance company, which also owns the fragrance store, Perfumania. Note that the Royal Secret you’ll find is an updated version of the original. Some users think it’s very similar. You’ll find Royal Secret eau de toilette in three sizes, prices range from $25 to $50, at Perfumania, Northlake Mall, 4800 Briarcliff Road, Atlanta, 770-723-1404. Interestingly enough, the store doesn’t stock Galore, but from the reviews I’ve read, the new Galore is nothing like the original. But, if you want to take a look, check out www.amazon.com. Sit down, though, because the prices are sky high, and then some.
Q: Can you tell me where I can find baking products from a company called Sunny Side Up Baker? I prefer this brand to Wilton, but it’s not as easy to find. Thank you. — C. White, Atlanta
A: Sunny Side Up Bakery makes a variety of baking tools and ingredients ranging from collapsible measuring sets to cake pans and fondant. Check out the cards-and-party section at Hobby Lobby, 4715 Ashford Dunwoody Road, Atlanta, 770-677-1860. You’ll find plenty of the company’s wares.
Q: I look forward to your column every Sunday. I’m trying to find a 409 cleaning product that out cleans any 409 you can purchase at the grocery store. It is labeled Clorox Commercial Solutions Formula 409. I would greatly appreciate being able to find this product. — Nina Williams, Marietta.
A: Thank you, Nina. So, I have a couple of suggestions for you regarding sources for your heavy duty cleaner. If you really love it — a lot — and you find that you use it often and never want to worry about running out, then you can order Clorox Commercial Solutions Formula 409 by visiting or calling Ace Hardware, 1316 Dunwoody Village Parkway, Atlanta, 770-394-6938 (or any Ace near you). You can order Clorox Commercial Solutions Formula 409, and pick it up at the store, free of shipping charges. The minor glitch is that you’ll have to order four 1-gallon jugs, which is a lot of cleaning solution. Each gallon costs $12.99. If you don’t want or need that much, then consider visiting US Janitorial Supplies, 3482 Oakcliff Road, Doraville, 770-733-1389. Here you can purchase a single gallon for $11.99.
