Q: Were can I find canning lids for my jars? These are smaller than the regular Ball lids. My jars are Atlas Mason that had marinara sauce in them. Thank you. Peggy Johnson, College Park

A: Peggy, I’m going to take a leap here and assume that your marinara sauce and jars are the Classico brand, which uses Atlas Mason jars. Most of these jars use the industry standard 63 mm lug lids. Unlike the screw-on cap, which features a continuous thread around the circumference of the jar opening, a lug features several threads resulting in a twist-off closure. Those are often the ones that make a popping sound when the button on the top of the lid reacts to the lid being twisted off for the first time. You can reuse your jars over and over as long as you have the proper lids, and now you can order the same replacement lids that commercial canners use. You can even get lids with a pop-up button. And since these lids are lined with plastisol and not latex, they’ll last much longer and can be used several times. Check out www.fillmorecontainer.com and look for 63 lug lids. You have a wide selection of colors and styles ranging from black, red, silver and gold, with or without button pop tops. Look for accessories to the right of the lids, and you’ll find jars that fit the lids on the page. You also can call Fillmore Container, 866-345-5527, to place your order and to make sure you’re getting the proper lid. Each lid costs 21 cents.
