Bestselling author Eben Alexander will discuss and sign copies of his latest book, “The Map of Heaven: How Science, Religion, and Ordinary People Are Proving the Afterlife” Nov. 6 at the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta.

The book is a follow to “Proof of Heaven”, about Alexander’s near-death experience and his journey to the afterlife.

Alexander said after his controversial first book, he was contacted by people who doubted his journey to the beyond. But a large number of people also said who had simliar experiences. In “Map of Heaven” he delves into the work of ancient philosphers, faith leaders, mystics and scientists and finds their thinking about the afterlife is more similar than not.

“It really hits very close to home,” he said in an telephone interview. “People liketo think they have an understanding around all of this and, certainly. for some out there they have known for some part of their lives that the spirutal realm is real… Then, of course, you have the other side - people who were just like I was before my coma who are totally hooked on pure science materialism…It really shakes them to the core to say, no, you’re wrong and that our souls really are eternal.”

The event, part of the Book Festival of the MJCCA, begins at 7:30 p.m. at the MJCCA, 5342 Tilly Mill Road. The cost is $13 for members and $18 for non-members.
