When a local resident suffered a medical emergency and had to be taken to the hospital, officers from the Orange Police Department attempted to round up the resident’s two dogs, who were outside, but the dogs ran off.
It was cold and the ground was covered with snow.
A few hours later, an Officer Chris Bisceglia was driving through the neighborhood on patrol, hoping to spot the dogs. One of the dogs ran up to the officer, barking. The dog insisted that the officer follow him through a field that overlooked an embankment. At the icy edge, Bisceglia saw that a second dog was trapped in overgrowth, approximately 30 feet down. The officer requested the help of the local fire department, which was able to use a ladder to reach the bottom of the embankment and rescue the dog.
Both dogs were taken to a veterinarian to check for injuries.
On the police department’s Facebook page, photos from the rescue are posted. The department writes: “Apparently, any dog in the right circumstance can turn into Lassie!”
