Filmmaker Ric Mathis has a few questions for you.

If you died right now, would you leave bills or benefits?

As a child, did your parents talk to you about money?

Mathis, a graduate of Georgia State University, thinks he knows the answer for many African Americans and has made a documentary on the importance of building and leaving a financial legacy.

“People will be surprised about how much money goes through the black community and is sucked right out,” he said.

Mathis will screen his film, "Black Friday," which looks at the issue of black wealth at 7 p.m. Friday at the Impact Church's events center, 2323 Sylvan Road. There will be a panel discussion following the screening.

A second screening will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Plaza Theatre, 1049 Ponce de Leon Ave. Both screenings are $10.

The weekend ends with a Sunday brunch, where participants can also get a a signed DVD. The 1 p.m. brunch will be held at Tassili's Raw Reality, 1059 Ralph David Abernathy Blvd. The cost is $40.

In 2003, Mathis, who was born in Valdosta, produced a series called “Word,” that featured African American poets.
