Amazon sells everything from cat food to caskets, from housewares to houses.
If you’ve been looking to downsize, Amazon has a tiny house that’s ready to move in to as soon as you put it together.
The Weizhengheng expandable flat pack container house comes with a remote control and hydraulic system that automatically expands or folds sections of the structure. And unlike many “cabins” and “garden houses” listed on the retail site, this one has power and plumbing.
The 15 foot wide x 19 foot long x 8 foot tall container home runs off a built-in solar and wind power system, but can be outfitted to use electricity. This model includes a toilet, shower and sink in the bathroom, plus a small kitchenette. It also includes furniture and an air conditioner.
The structure can be used as an office, guest house or main house for those wanting to live a simpler life.
Weizhengheng also makes a 20 x 40 expandable house with solar power. It will run you about $37K. Both houses cost about $1,000 to ship, and, no, they aren’t available through Amazon Prime.
If you’re looking for something more along the lines of a “she shed,” Amazon has numerous options. Few of these have plumbing or power, so they cost much less.
The Allwood Solvalla studio cabin kit is a 172-square-foot structure that sells for less than $8,000. The Allwood Sommersby kit is the same size as te Solvalla but costs about $1,000 more. Its floor plan includes more closed space, with French doors and floor-to-ceiling windows.
Make sure you read the Amazon description carefully. Some of these kits do not include roofing materials or other items shown in the photos.
But for an easy office, recreation space or guest house — or main house — these structures might be what you’re looking for.
