Hillside International Truth Center's Bishop Barbara L. King has always loved fashion.

It could be difficult, though, to buy clothing that fit her towering frame.

King, who stands 6-feet-five inches, had to get many of her clothes custom made.

Her maternal grandmother, who was seven-feet tall, used to sew some of her clothes.

“She’d go to the movies, see something she liked, go home draw and sew,” said King. “I’d have that dress on Sunday at church.”

Now she’s turning that love of fashion into an online custom design fashion business called “The Barbara King Collection. ” The theme for the inaugural collection is “Grace in Flight.”

“I meet so many women like me who love beautiful clothes but can’t always find them,” said King, 86, founder and spiritual world leader of the Cascade Road church, which began in 1971 as a 12-member prayer group in her home.

The public is invited to a free trunk show from 2 pm. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, 265 Peachtree St. N.E. For reservations call 404-271-9281. The deadline is Thursday.

She is working with Memphis designer Marva G. Ballard on the line, which initially includes women’s leather clothes, wall hangings and tote bags.

Expect the line to incorporate an image of the butterfly, which is King’s favorite symbol, as well as “patterns on leather like you’ve never seen before.”

Eventually she plans to sell men’s wear as well, said King, who is also working on a book for tall girls.
