What better way to relish the arrival of a new “Star Wars” movie than toasting to it with a themed cocktail or two?
One of these should get you in the right state of mind to feel the Force come Friday, when “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” debuts in theaters. Stay classic with the martini-like drink Jedi Mind Trick or venture into newer territory with the rum-filled Planet Hoth Toddy, which is as cold as the icy place it’s named after.
Star Wars: The Empire Likes Jack, the third cocktail recipe included here, is more of a booze-filled dessert. Save that one for the end, when you’ll need something strong and sweet to help you swallow the fact that the movie is over. At least until the Blu-Ray comes out, of course.
Jedi Mind Trick
1 1/2 oz. The London Nº 1 Gin
1/2 oz. dry vermouth
Lemon twist
Stir wet ingredients in stirring glass or Boston shaker. Double-strain into martini glass. Garnish with lemon twist as preferred.
Planet Hoth Toddy
2 oz. Bacardi Gran Reserva Maestro de Ron
3/4 oz. lime juice
1/2 oz. simple syrup
1/4 oz. Luxardo Maraschino liqueur
1 egg white
Shake all ingredients vigorously in a shaker with plenty ice. Double strain into a coupe and garnish with nutmeg.
Star Wars: The Empire Likes Jack
8 oz. root beer
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 oz. Jack Daniel’s
1 scoop vanilla ice cream
Combine the root beer and vanilla in a mug and stir. Add the Jack Daniels and ice cream.
