Years ago businessman Richard Taylor struggled with high blood pressure.

When he lost 30 pounds and his blood pressure returned to normal.

Now he wants to make sure other men in his community remain healthy.

“Men are reluctant to go to the doctor, so we’re bringing the service to them where they’re comfortable,” said Taylor.

From noon until 3 p.m. Saturday, Taylor'd Cuts Barber Shop in East Point will offer men $5 off a hair cut if they get screened for high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol. The shop is located at 854 Cleveland Ave., Suite 800.

He’s not leaving out women, who can get the same $5 off a service, if they get screened.

“The focus is on the health screening, the discount is secondary,” he said.

The shop is partnering with Lifestyle Events by Elle, and a Subway franchise owner for the event. Drs. Walter and Contessa Metcalfe will be available to answer questions. Screenings will be provided by the Fulton County Department of Health and Wellness.
