The Georgia Archives will hold its second annual Archives and Genealogy Day Oct. 25, with a full day’s schedule of lectures and entertainment.
The event will last from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. The day will begin with interpreters in period dress, the first lecture at 9 a.m. will be Wendy Hagenmeier on preserving your own digital records, then Susan Sloan will speak on breaking down “brick walls.”
Granville Automatic will perform musical selections for an hour, followed by a short lunch break, then at 12:30 p.m. Michael Henderson will speak on mining genealogical documents to connect your ancestors to people and places.
Darla Allgood and Frederick Hoff will be the last speakers, talking about using records to guide you. A panel discussion will close out the day.
The event, which is co-sponsored by the Society of Georgia Archivists, the Georgia Genealogical Society and Friends of Georgia Archives and History, is free; bring your own lunch. For further information, check georgiaarchives.org or call 678-364-3710.
Night Owl Prowl in Athens
The Heritage Room of the Athens-Clarke County Library, 2025 Baxter St., Athens, will hold a Night Owl Prowl for genealogists from 6 p.m. to midnight Oct. 17.
Participants will be allowed to use the genealogy records. Cost is $10 for Clarke-Oconee Genealogical Society members, $15 for nonmembers. The fee covers food and security. Registration is required. Go to rootsweb.ancestry.com/~gacogs. Deadline is 8 p.m. Oct. 15.
