Nachos can be as simple as cheese and tortilla chips, or as complex as your taste buds can concoct. You can eat them alone, but they’re built for sharing.

Although you can easily make nachos at home, many restaurants take advantage of their versatility to put their own spin on the dish. That’s evident in Eat This, Not That’s roundup of the best nachos in every state.

A “number of nacho dishes that made this list use potato chips or fried plantains as a base instead of tortilla chips,” Eat This, Not That wrote. “Thanks to the versatility of nacho-making, restaurants can make excellent use of their local specialties to create unique, unforgettable nacho dishes (for example, the best nachos in Hawaii are served up at a sushi restaurant and made with spicy tuna on fried wontons).”
