The star of Atlanta-filmed ‘Black Panther’ is partnering with Amazon Studios for the initiative

Michael B. Jordan is partnering with Amazon Studios to bring free drive-in movies to cities around the United States. The summer screening series will focus on films that celebrate multicultural voices in cinema, according to a press release.

The “Black Panther” star’s Outlier Society productions is also teaming with Prime Video to bring a collection of double features curated by Jordan with help from his newly formed marketing arm, 8788, to select cities — including Savannah — free of charge. Friends and families nationwide will be able to see the films every other week now through August.

“With this drive-in summer series, I hope that friends and families are able to not only enjoy, but to learn and grow,” Jordan, principal of Outlier Society, said in a statement. “Now more than ever, amplifying Black and Brown stories means engaging culture to speak to hearts and minds about the world we live in. As we use this opportunity to reimagine community and proximity, I am excited that these films will be shared and celebrated all across the country.”

As part of the drive-in experience, Path Water, Pipcorn Popcorn and Partake Cookies — each Black or minority-owned businesses — will provide refreshments. As guests enjoy snacks, they’ll be treated to a selection of films Jordan selected from Prime Video, including movies about love such as “Love & Basketball,” films that make you laugh such as “Girls Trip” and those that look at societal issues such as “Get Out.”
