It’s happening. The final countdown is on.
In November we broke the news that John Kessler, our chief dining critic of 17 years, is leaving us for Chicago. He’s making the move to support his wife, which we admire, so there are no hard feelings.
While we have a special farewell planned for him (and you, the readers) in the coming weeks, today the folks at Atlanta Magazine published their exit interview with our guy.
The Q&A covers Atlanta’s dining scene on the national scale, Southern food in its element, maligned trends, everyone's ability to be a critic nowadays and much more. The conversation is candid and well-executed.
Without giving too much away, here are some gems from it.
“I’ve always enjoyed dining as a treat, but to me, cooking your own food is the key to really appreciating it.”
“I’m 53 years old, and every time I cook an egg, it comes out differently. You can always learn something from paying attention to your eggs.”
You can find the interview here.
And be sure to stay with us as our farewell is coming soon, too.
