Consider joining the Tiny Home Movement. Decatur residents will get to learn more about the movement this month.
The goal is for many people who live in tiny homes is to reduce clutter and save money.
The Decatur Tiny House Festival will offer attendees a chance to tour at least 11 tiny homes and hear from experts and government officials regarding the lifestyle trend. The festival will take placec on July 30 and 31.
According to Will Johnston, founder of Tiny House Atlanta, the tiny homes that will be at the festival will vary in price, starting at about $35,000 and maxing out at about $80,000.
Speakers will touch on downsizing, understanding codes and restrictions in your city, and more.
Johnston said he created the organization in 2014 after returning from a trip to New Zealand.
“I really liked not owning anything,” he said.
He used Meetup.com to find people involved in the movement. He is hoping to move into his first tiny home by the end of the year.
Admission to the two-day festivcal is $35 for adults, or $20 for single-day tickets. Children, ages 4-12, will be admitted for $5.
