Virgin Atlantic will begin flying from Atlanta to Manchester next summer.

The British carrier will take over the route from its partner, Atlanta-based Delta. Delta last year bought a minority stake in Virgin Atlantic and the two carriers formed a strategic alliance.

The addition of the Manchester route will be an expansion of Virgin Atlantic’s service beyond its launch of service in Atlanta Oct. 26. On that date, Virgin will take over one of Delta’s three daily Atlanta-London Heathrow flights.

Virgin said it also plans to add a second Atlanta-Heathrow route starting in summer 2015.
