Chick-fil-A says today is one of the first times customers can try its new sweet potato waffle fries. But the offer is only available in Memphis, Oklahoma City, Philadelphia and Athens, Ga.

In those cities, customers who request the fries between 3 and 6:00 p.m. will get a free medium order. The company did not say when the fries would be introduced more widely.

In a conversation with the AJC last summer, a Chick-fil-A vice president said sweet potato products carry a healthful image. "There's a nutritional halo around sweet potato products," said Woody Faulk, who oversees brand strategy and design. But he indicated that the fries, then in test phase, were very difficult to make on a large scale.
