Maggie Sue Romeo of Braselton won $125,000 today in college funds after winning "Regis & Kelly's" Beautiful Baby contest.
She sure is adorable!
"I'm still floored," said Maggie Sue's mom Dana an hour after winning, by phone from New York City. "There is no way to tell you how shocked I am."
“We have two other daughters (Madison, 12; Megan, 10),” she added. “Between wedding and college, it will really help.”
She sent in Maggie Sue’s photo just hoping to make the online gallery. But instead, on Monday, she watched Maggie Sue’s picture pop up on the screen. She soon had tickets to New York.
Dana said she’s not the type who brags about her daughter all day long. “I’m older,” she said. “I’m a little more laid back. Her personality makes her a lot cuter than her actual picture is. You get to hear her talk and be silly and sing Lady Gaga.”
Maggie Sue, she said, doesn’t get the money part but is thrilled about the free Gerber apple juice and puffs she’ll be able to share with her little cousin. She also enjoyed the balloons that came down when she won.
Maggie Sue will also be on the cover of Parenting Early Years magazine. But this does not mean a start in modeling for her. “We’ll just go back home and play in the yard with the dogs,” she said. “No pageant mom here.”
Below, Maggie Sue poses with Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa earlier this week. Her mom Dana is in the photo. Not pictured: her dad Frank, who is a regional vice president at an eyecare company.
Technically, at age three, she’s a toddler, not a baby, but why deal with semantics?
Another finalist, John Jeffrey Simmons of Mableton, will get $25,000 in college funds. He is 17 months old:

I have shut down the comments. Apparently, this has become a racial issue. Have a great weekend!
