Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush will have to walk a thin line when he heads to Athens next month.
The Republican presidential candidate isn't picking just any day to visit the Classic City. He's set to arrive on Sept. 19 to watch the annual gridiron matchup between Georgia and South Carolina.
And just who he will root for - many hardened SEC fans won't buy a neutral line - may be the toughest question he gets that day. South Carolina, of course, is an early-voting state where Bush has been spending plenty of time. But he's also visited Georgia a half-dozen or so times in the past year as he tries to build support ahead of the March 1 primary.
He's visited twice this month alone - he grabbed a Frosted Orange at the Varsity on Tuesday and spoke about a week ago at the RedState Gathering - and he has made other Atlanta stops this year to raise campaign cash, hang out with Ludacris and address the General Assembly.
No word yet on which team he's supporting, but Georgia dominates the rivalry (despite a heartwrenching loss last year in soggy Columbia).
Here's the details about Bush's visit from the Facebook site of Secretary of State Brian Kemp:
Heading to Athens this fall to see the Dawgs in action? You might see your favorite presidential candidate there too! With the growing importance of the SEC Primary in the 2016 presidential contest, it's no surprise that former Florida governor Jeb Bush is making a trip to the Classic City for the Georgia/Carolina game. I look forward to welcoming Gov. Bush - and any other presidential candidate - to my hometown for what is shaping up to be an exciting football season!
