Jason Carter is returning to his law practice after taking off more than a year to challenge Gov. Nathan Deal.
The Atlanta Democrat will return to work with a promotion to partner at Bondurant Mixson & Elmore, where he took on a number of high-profile cases in the runup to his gubernatorial bid.
Throughout the campaign, Carter and his allies depicted him as a champion of vulnerable citizens in court, while opponents tried to paint him as a left-leaning trial lawyer who took on partisan causes as he sought higher office.
A review of his legal record told a more nuanced story, which you can read here.
Since his election defeat, Carter hasn't exactly been brooding. He's been spotted at events around town, kept a promise to adopt a puppy for his children and traveled to Orlando with the family. And, in a recent interview, he made clear that his political aspirations aren't over.
“We’ll see. The world changes. Two years is an eternity in politics, and four years is two eternities,” Carter said in that November sit-down. “You don’t know. But I certainly wouldn’t rule it out.”
