Georgia State University has confirmed that Cliff Kuhn, a well-known historian who organized the centennial commemorations of the Atlanta's 1906 race riots, died Sunday afternoon of a heart attack.
Kuhn, an associate professor of history, had taught at GSU since 1989. He was a specialist in oral history and in 20th century Southern history.
His family sends word that his passing was peaceful, and expressed gratitude that Kuhn, a non-native, had been embraced by his city.
In 2013, Kuhn became the first-ever executive director for the Oral History Association. He also served as co-chair of the content committee for the National Center for Civil and Human Rights.
