GHSF Daily asked Georgia head coaches to answer these four questions. We'll report from a different head coach each day.
Hal Lamb, Calhoun
1. Who is/was the most influential person in your coaching career? "My dad [Ray Lamb, retired Hall of Fame coach for Warren County and Commerce] was the most influential person in my career. He taught me a lot about the game, but more importantly, he taught me how to treat people, including his coaches, players, parents and community."
2. Who is the best Georgia player you ever faced? "Struggling with that one. Too many good ones." GHSF Daily replied that former Jefferson QB Bryant Shirreffs was pretty good in the 2012 state final, to which Lamb replied, "Yes, he was." Shirreffs passed for 171 yards, rushed for 139 and scored three touchdowns in Jefferson's 34-14 victory.
3. What is the best team you ever faced as a coach? "Probably the Buford team of 2008. Very talented and very well-coached. Tough combination to deal with."
4. If you were Gary Phillips, the new head of the GHSA, what would be the first rule that you would try to change? "Getting a little more control of summer activities across the board."
