If you thought traffic congestion caused by freight trucks was bad in metro Atlanta, you were right.
And now there's a study to prove it. The American Transportation Research Institute did an analysis of 250 "bottleneck" locations nationwide and found that Spaghetti Junction, the intersection of I-85 and I-285, is the worst in the country.
During rush hour, the average speed at the interchange is 28 mph, according to the analysis. At other times of the day, the average speed is 40 mph.
The analysis incorporated a massive database of truck GPS data at freight-significant locations throughout the United States, and used an algorithm that quantifies the impact of congestion on freight trucks.
