Pulse nightclub shooting survivor Angel Colon: "There were bodies everywhere"

ORLANDO - Angel Colon is one of the lucky ones. He was one of the victims shot during the Pulse nightclub massacre, but he survived.

"I really appreciate all the love I've gotten," he said during a Tuesday news conference at Orlando Regional Medical Center. He was initially hesitant to speak out but decided he wanted to share his story, and the gratitude he feels.

The night was just about to end with the shooting started.

"We were all just having a great time," he said. "It was shortly after 2. We were all saying our goodbyes. We just grabbed each other. We just started running."

Shot in the leg, he fell. "I tried to get back up. I got trampled over."

The gunman was not only spraying the room with bullets - he was shooting the wounded to "make sure they were dead," Colon said.

"I can just see him shooting everyone," he recalled. "I look over and he shoots the girl next to me. I'm thinking, I'm next. I'm dead."

The gunman fired in his direction but only wounded Colon. Afterward, he recalled not necessarily feeling pain but being aware he was covered in blood. And "there were bodies everywhere," he said.

His voice quaking, he expressed his eternal appreciation to his caregivers.

"If it wasn't for you guys, I definitely wouldn't be here," he said. "I will love you guys forever."
