After a capacity crowd packed Marietta High School Wednesday night for a program titled Civilian Response to an Active Shooter Event, the Marietta Police Department has scheduled another.

The 800-capacity theater was overflowing with people who spent two hours learning how to increase their odds of surviving an attack by an active shooter, the AJC's Dan Klepal reported. The event combined a lecture of best practices, with video training and 911 calls from actual mass shooting events.
Lt. Brian Marshall said the best response to a shooting situation is to "avoid, deny and defend." Details on what that means here.
The next active shooter seminar will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 20 at Marietta Middle School. <- Note the new location.
