The National Center for Civil and Human Rights has been open less than a year, but it will soon be looking for a new leader.
CEO Doug Shipman, who, over the last 10 years steered the downtown attraction from an idea to a reality, will be leaving the center in June, according to a spokesperson.
Shipman said in a statement that it was “time to pass the baton.” Shipman will remain on the board of the rights center.
The center opened last June in the Centennial Park plaza that also houses the Georgia Aquarium and the World of Coca-Cola. The facility is intended to tell Atlanta’s civil rights history, and also to serve as a forum for the discussion of human rights around the world.
