Sandy Springs is close to sealing a deal to buy four acres downtown for a park and traffic roundabout to form the eastern end of the City Springs redevelopment.

The City Council recently authorized City Manager John McDonough to sign a purchase agreement – with terms to be worked out and subject to the city attorney’s review – for a triangular parcel bounded by Roswell and Johnson Ferry roads and Mount Vernon Highway.

The seller is W.B. Holdings Triangle LLC, whose principal is Adam Orkin, and the price is expected to be $4.8 million, officials said. Plans call for the site to be cleared and replaced with a park facing Roswell Road, and a roundabout in place of the present intersection of Johnson Ferry and Mount Vernon.

A closing date for the land acquisition will be set after terms are finalized, a Sandy Springs spokeswoman said.

In December, the Council approved paying $73,600 to assist in the relocation of the last business on the triangle, Magic Mike’s Automotive. The auto repair shop moved up the street to 6560 Roswell Road.
