The Cobb County Board of Commissioners voted 5-0 Tuesday to appoint Rob Hosack as interim county manager.

Hosack will succeed David Hankerson who is retiring on May 1 after more than 24 years as county manager but who will continue as a county consultant, beginning June 1.

Hosack previously worked for Cobb County Government for more than 29 years. He joined the county in 1986 as a planner in the Planning and Zoning Division and served as a senior planner, coordinator for intergovernmental relations and planning division manager. Rising through the ranks, Hosack was appointed as director of the Community Development Agency, serving in that role for 15 years.

Hosack also was the lead county representative in the creation of the Town Center Community Improvement District. He currently serves on the Kennesaw State University advisory board for the Master of Public Administration program. In January, he also began serving a four-year term as district supervisor with the Cobb County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission.

Hosack earned a Bachelor of Science degree in planning from Western Carolina University and began his career as a community planner for the state of Tennessee.
