A 12-year-old boy was shot multiple times in northwest Atlanta on Friday, police said.

Officers were called to an area near Martin Luther King Jr. and Hamilton E. Holmes drives shortly after 6 p.m. regarding a person shot. At the scene, officers said they found the boy with gunshot wounds to the abdomen and arm.

The boy was said to be alert and taken to a hospital.

The victim’s older brother, who witnessed the shooting, told police that it began as an argument between him, his brother and a group of “unknown males,” an incident report details.

He added that they were walking near the 2200 block of MLK Drive when they head a loud noise and then saw a blue vehicle. A man standing outside the rear passenger side allegedly shot at them and then the vehicle took off with the suspected shooter inside, the report states.

At least 19 shell casings were located by police at the scene.
